Participants can earn the Oracle Advanced PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional and/or the Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate certifications by taking any one of three exams: 1Z0-007 Introduction to Oracle9i SQL, 1Z0-047 Oracle Database SQL Expert, or 1Z0-051 Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I. All three exams are similar, and to all individuals, new or experienced, choosing one can be difficult.
The PL/SQL Developer certification requires that individuals be knowledgeable of developing and implementing database applications for Oracle 9i and Oracle 10g. The Database 11g Administrator certification requires broad knowledge of the features, concepts, and overall administration of the 11g database. It does not matter which exam you choose to take. Oracle recommends that you take the 1Z0-051 or 1Z0-047 exam for the 11g certification, simply because it contains the most up-to-date knowledge of the software. Between those two is a difference in the level of expertise needed. The latter is an expert exam, meaning advanced knowledge and skills will be required to successfully complete it. The former exam tests basic to intermediate fundamental knowledge. Although the expert exam may ultimately be of greater benefit, earning the certification can be done with either exam.
The Oracle 1Z0-007 is designed for the Oracle9i certification because it contains information specifically pertaining to that SQL program. Taking this exam and earning this certification is perfectly acceptable, but earning the 11g certification will make it clear that you have knowledge of the updated, additional topics of the updated software. It is generally suggested that participants use training resources (whether provided by Oracle or an outside website like TestsLive) to train for the most recent version of a program, as the older program will eventually be retired.
